It took me two afternoons last week to re-wire hubby's trailer, the one that he take's his bangers on to go racing.
Well on Thursday it worked perfect, every light worked nothing was wrong it was great, then yesterday he hooked the trailer up, put the banger on and tested the lights.
The left hand back light didn't work, the right hand indicator didn't work, and the brake lights didn't work.
That was it my world had ended, what was the point of me going to all the trouble & doing hours of wiring just to be back at square one with no lights.
Ok that was a bit dramatic but everything was just going wrong, the BBQ didn't fit into the banger and there was no room left in the boot for it, so that was out of the window.
We were late leaving and Ipswich was going to be packed.
So we set off in daylight (well grey daylight it was drizzling) and decided to get a McDonalds on the way.
We go through the drive through with the trailer on the back, and they ask us to park up lmbo. Well you should of see the look on her face when we pointed behind us and said "Where". It was only a small car park so we used the lorry park next door.
As we pulled away the ABS light came on.
For those of you who aren't technical that meant the brakes were not working.
So I dig out the manual and look up about this warning light, "It say's that there is a secoundry brake system on this vehicle honey" say's I. Well hubby tried the brakes & yes we stopped, so we carried on our way (we were on a dual carrige way when the light came on) to our destination 10 mins down the road.
Then as we left the dual carriage way we realised that we had no indicators and the dash lights had gone out.
"What's going on?" say's I "I reckon the trailer has fused the truck lights" say's hubby.
"I'll sort it when we get there" says I, we were only 2 miles from parking up.
So I find the fuse for the indicators, and look to see if there is another fuse the same (15 amp) anywhere else in the fuse box.
"There are 2, do you want me to use the one from the central locking or the alarm system?" I ask hubby " try the alarm one says he so I pull it out and the alarm goes off.
There I am in the semi dark with the alarm going off a fuse in my hand an the keys in my pocket. So I put the fuse back in..... It's still going off.
I think quick and put the key in the ignition and turn it ....... the alarm turns off. Phew it's all quiet.
I then realise that the fuse box has extra fuses located in it. Dooh you idiot why did you not read that bit first I thought, I could of kicked myself at this point.
So I put one of the spare fuses in place and turn the key; nothing! ..... there was nothing!!! The engine didn't make a noise!
I don't believe this, what have I done now?
I shut the door and try the central locking; the key fob didn't work.
I've imobilised the engine and don't have the security access code to override it (we were never given it when we bought the truck).
That's it I need to call the rescue people, but the number is at home.
I call the neighbour on her mobile, she isn't at home either, but will be going home in the next hour or so.
It's a good job we had planned to be where we were for a good few hours.
Well the long and well long of it is we are home, the car reset it's self while we where on the tow truck, and started up when we got home.
It was a sight a tow truck with a 4x4 land rover on the back towing a trailer carrying a beat up banger race car.
So we now only have the problem with the brakes to get fixed, I must admit I did forget about the problem with the brakes amoungst everything else that was going on.
Oh and the sleepydust car did really well on the track, it's just a shame it wasn't a dry night or else it may of finished in the top 3, who knows maybe even first. Hubby said it had a lot of power to it, so thanks to hubbys boss for donating it and to Sleepydust for letting us use her designs on the car.
Now for a week of recovery and sorting out the truck .
